Exterior Presentation

The exterior design for the Hutchins Recreation Center and Library focused on creating a welcoming, community-centered presence that reflects both functionality and civic pride. The concept integrates modern architectural forms with warm, durable materials to establish a sense of place and longevity. Emphasis was placed on clear public access, natural light, and visual connectivity between the interior and surrounding landscape.

Design strategies included the use of large glazing elements to promote transparency and safety, shaded entryways for comfort, and thoughtful massing to differentiate the library and recreation zones while maintaining a cohesive identity. The exterior palette blends masonry, wood accents, and metal detailing—grounded in the local context and scaled for community engagement.
